....And David encouraged himself in the Lord

1 Sam 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

The reality in this verse is that you are the only one who understands the pain you are facing. The same men that were with David out for battle were now speaking of stoning him. The situation had changed because these men had lost everything.

In life people have very many issues that hard press them. The need for us to encourage each other becomes greater every moment. We would have expected for the soldiers to encourage David their leader but tables turn and the men want to take out their frustrations on David.

But.....David encouraged himself in the Lord.

We need to learn this value and become a source of blessing in our tribulations.

1 Sam 30:8 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

The one way to encourage ourselves is to commune with God and rely on Him. Man will fail you, I will fail you, we are unreliable many times and especially when it inconveniences us yet you need us the most.

But God does not change, He remains the same yesterday today and forever.
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Today let us not wait to be encouraged, instead let us arise and enquire of the Lord. Let us go back to others discouraged and encourage them as Christ has encouraged us.
