Deut 4:9-10
9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”
Life has so many challenges that wipe out the good memories and those victorious moments we experienced in God.
With time, what felt so real slowly fades away from our hearts and minds. And when tough times come our way, those very powerful testimonies we experienced are gone from us and we respond to the new challenges as people who had not been in a victorious experience with God.
In verse 9, God reminds us to really watch ourselves, to assess our lives and ensure we continue to recount God's powerful acts in our lives.
To take it a step further, God tells us to share these experiences with others. Keep the memories alive, let our children and grand kids hear of God's doing in our lives and find strength to worship when things don't make sense.
God tells us that by keeping these memories alive, we learn to revere Him. verse 10.
We could easily say with confidence that the Lord did these things we testify of and continually worship Him.
If the memories are allowed to fade, we allow a strong aspect of our worship to God to die slowly. We forget the God "Who was"...in our various situations making it harder to wait and trust in our present situations.
Hab 2:2
2 Then the Lord replied:
“Write down the revelation
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald[b] may run with it.
What memories are fading away? Write them down. Let these be available for many more to catch the vision of God and run with it, Amen.
Keep the memories alive.
Psalms 2:8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
