Remedy for jealousy

Phil 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

What jealousy does is make us see ourselves as more deserving than others. The Story of Ahab and Naboth, in our article When jealousy takes over, death looms, shows how Ahab really wanted the vineyard to the point of not eating, so they kill a man just to get his vineyard.

Jealousy skews our views and perspectives, Ahab was willing to pay any amount of money for the vineyard. Ahab could have afforded any vineyard he wanted but instead he lusted after one resulting to murder.

That's why God is telling us to do nothing out of selfish ambitions. Instead, He requires that we be humble and consider others higher than ourselves. This perspective kills the need to want without self control.
Gal 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

One beautiful evidence of the Holy Spirit's fruit in our lives is self control.
Master of self needs.

1 Tim 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

The art of being content is a blessing that results from the Spirit of God's fruit of self control.

1 Tim 6:9 shows that people desiring to get rich:
  1. Are prone to diverse temptations. Ahab wanted just one more vineyard....
  2. Are trapped. Ahab could not get his heart from the vineyard so his heart got heavy and his appetite left him.
  3. They fall into foolish and harmful desires. Ahab shares his anger and frustration with Jezebel his wife who asked about the change in behaviour and a scheme to eliminate Naboth was crafted resulting to his death.
